Young and Dominant Sports Talk
Like a Bad High School Relationship….

Today, the Pittsburgh Steelers announced (again) that they will be releasing one of the greatest Steeler WR’s of all time: Hines Ward. Though just two weeks ago, they said they will be bringing him back, they have changed their mind, once again. This time, it seems real. After 14 seasons in gold and black, Ward will be packing his bags, changing his team colors, and heading elsewhere.

Hines Ward had this to say upon learning that he will be released on March 13th, the start of the NFL’s new league year: “I do feel that I still have more football left in me and I am looking forward to playing in the NFL, again, this upcoming season.” Ward had 1,000 catches and over 12,000 yards in his 14 years with the Steelers. He was also a 4-time pro-bowler and the 2006 Super Bowl MVP.

I for one, am a little dissapointed in the Steelers organization for this decision. Like I said on the show a few weeks ago, I think the Steelers owe him to keep him around. But, I guess this is the greatest example that the NFL truly is a business and that the Steelers are building towards a future, and are not concerned with the likes of Hines Ward any longer. Although I can not predict the future, I am interested to see where he lands in free agency. I don’t see him being any higher than a 3rd string WR in this league any more, but hes not Randy Moss or Terrell Owens….someone will definitely want him. We’ll just have to wait and see who.
